The government has sought to balance the need to regulate the crypto sector while still establishing Great Britain as a global crypto hub. They may also make cross-border payments easier and lessen the need for foreign exchange. Cryptocurrencies are digital currencies that use cryptography to secure and verify transactions in a network. On 10 June 2021, the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision proposed that banks that held cryptocurrency assets must set aside capital to cover all potential losses.
